Our Story
Founded in 2013, CHEECA Uganda (Community Health, Education and Environmental Conservation Agency) is a Christian community-based development organization dedicated to transforming the lives of vulnerable populations in Mayuge District and across Uganda.
The seeds of CHEECA were sown in February 2011, when health worker Mr. Kwiri Stanley established the Suubi Medical Centre at the Bwondha Landing site. Serving a densely populated community of over 40,000 people, Mr. Stanley witnessed firsthand the devastating impact of systemic poverty. At the time, over half the population was under 18, yet many children did not live to see their fifth birthday due to preventable diseases like malaria and pneumonia. The community faced a cycle of high HIV/STI rates, early pregnancies, and a staggering 90% dropout rate among students before reaching secondary school.
Driven by faith and a commitment to social justice, CHEECA Uganda was established to move beyond clinical care and address the root causes of these challenges. We believe that through collective effort and the love of Christ, we can break the cycle of malnutrition and illiteracy, offering a future of hope and dignity for every family in Uganda’s fishing and rural communities.
